Friday music: Porque te vas

When my dad was in Ecuador, he was introduced to the music of an Anglo-Spanish singer named Jeanette.  I grew up listening to her because he made a cassette tape featuring a lot of her music.  I couldn't understand a word she was singing, but her voice and melodies were so beautiful that I didn't care.

Jeanette was born in London, raised in America, and sings in Spanish.  Her voice has a sweet quality, soft and soothing, the kind that can lull you to sleep.  I actually enjoy listening to her music at night the most when I'm about to go to bed.

Her most successful song is "Porque te vas."  I don't know very much Spanish, but I've read that it translates to "Because you're leaving."  I never looked up the translation to the lyrics until today.  Before today, I assumed the song was about a break-up of some sort, though the song is quite upbeat, so it never sounded sad to me.

After reading the translation I found online, I guess it is a sad song, a song of loss and longing.  An interesting offset, I suppose.

--

Me olvidarás, me olvidarás

Me olvidarás, me olvidarás

Me olvidarás, me olvidarás
